Sanders Campaign Fires Back At Hillary By Demanding An Apology
At a campaign event in New York, Hillary Clinton gave a very angry response to Greenpeace activist, Eva Resnick-Day. The question was centered around Clinton’s acceptance of money from fossil fuel companies.
“I am so sick! I am so sick of the Sanders campaign lying about me. I’m sick of it.” said Hillary Clinton, jabbing her finger toward the reporter.
Naturally, this did not sit well with the Sanders campaign, who are now thinking Clinton owes the second place Democratic candidate an apology.
“I think she probably owes the senator an apology for that because the senator is not lying about her record,” said Jeff Weaver, Sander’s campaign manager. “He’s talking about her record. He’s talking about her practices. She obviously doesn’t like it, but that doesn’t make it lying because you don’t like it.”
“If the Clinton campaign wants to argue that industry lobbyists giving thousands of dollars to her campaign won’t affect her decisions if she’s elected, that’s fine,” said Weaver. “But to call us liars for pointing out basic facts about the secretary’s fundraising is deeply cynical and very disappointing.”
Not surprising anyone, Hillary Clinton is lying about Sanders lying. According to OpenSecrets.org, Clinton has received over $330,000 from oil and gas industry affiliates.
Accepting money straight from from oil and gas industries is illegal, and if you get down to the nitty-gritty, Clinton’s spin is a half-truth. She’s not getting money from the industry directly, but there are ways the they can get money to a candidate by proxy. Either way, this ends up putting Clinton in a position where she has to return the back scratching.
“That’s the way it works in Washington, D.C.,” said Weaver. “If you don’t take into account the fact that you have these guys running around bundling who are giving you $100,000; $200—$300,000, they’re gonna come knocking on the White House door the day after the election and say, ‘Hey, by the way.’”
Problem is, the Sanders campaign has also accepted money from oil and gas. Not nearly as much as Clinton has, but over $50,000 is still a pretty good chunk of change, especially when “climate change causes terrorism” is one of your key issues.
